Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has sanctioned Rs 11 crore to Ernakulam Medical College for various developmental projects. Minister for Health and Social Justice KK Shailaja teacher on Thursday announced that the fund was allotted to upgrade the medical college as a centre of excellence.

In order to renovate the administrative block and medical library, Rs 1.5 crore was allotted. A fund of Rs 4 crore will be raised for the multilevel parking facility and drainage-sewage facility. However, the government also sanctioned Rs 3 crore for isolation room complex, Rs 50 lakh for water treatment plant and Rs 2 crore for multi-disciplinary ICU development.

It is reported that there is 50 percent increase in number of patients at Ernakulam Medical College after government took over. Hence, parking facility has became a huge problem here. In order to solve this, a multilevel parking facility will be established by allotting special areas for staff and visitors.

The drainage often leaks after it get clogged by cloth or other waste materials as very thin pipes are used. Following this, huge amount of money is spend often to repair it. It is expected that the new and improved facility will solve the issue.

The new multidisciplinary ICU will connect ICUs in various departments to assure immediate medical care to patients.
