Govt announces financial aid to disaster-hit districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has declared compensation to seven districts affected by the heavy rain. Highest amount of financial aid will be granted to Kozhikode district which is identified as most affected from rain related disaster.

It is reported that extensive damage occurred in hilly ranges of Kozhikode.

The government has decided to issue an emergency aid of Rs 90 lakh to Kozhikode district and Rs 55 lakh each to Kannur and Malappuram districts. Apart from this, Rs 50 lakh will be given to Wayanad and Rs 35 lakh each will be given to Idukki and Kottayam districts.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed Chief secretary and district collectors in disaster-hit districts to take immediate action to prevent further destruction from heavy rain.

Heavy rain and landslide widely affected Kozhikode district. Four people were killed in flooding and landslide in Kozhikode. Apart from this, 13 people went missing in the district. Traffic in major roads connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad got disrupted following the landslide and flooding on Thursday.
