KBPS to continue with textbooks distribution

Kochi: Putting an end to the confusions, a decision has been arrived on the school textbooks distribution. Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) will carry out distribution of the textbooks to schools.

Earlier ‘Mathrubhumi’ had reported about attempts being made to sabotage the textbook distribution which was conducted by the KBPS. Following this a decision has been made to keep the deal as such.

The textbooks required for the coming academic year has been prepared as three volumes. According to primary statistics, 3 crore textbooks in first volume are required, which are the 287 prototype books of class one to ten. The printing of 1.5 crore books have been completed.

A tender had been called by the Society for the distribution of these. But the labour associations had alleged it to be a part of conspiracy following which there were ministerial-level intervention. On the meetings and discussions conducted, it was found that the officials are moving away from the distribution due to the strict guidelines implemented this year.

One of the instructions was to attach the loading unloading wage voucher with the transportation contractor’s bill. Another was to collect the Aadhaar details of even the temporary employees at the depot. Realising these were not practically possible, it has been decided to continue the distribution adhering to the previous policy.

The distribution of textbooks to the school societies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts has already begun.
