Religious hatred case: Senkumar gets interim bail

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail to former state police chief T.P. Senkumar who was booked on charges of spreading religious hatred.

The cyber wing of the Crime Branch booked the former director general of police (DGP) under IPC 153 (A) for instigating religious hatred through an interview given to a vernacular magazine. The case was also registered against the magazine which published the controversial interview.

Senkumar had earlier approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. In his plea, he stated he did not make any such comment and that his remarks were misquoted by the publication. He also said that he had sent a notice to the publication in this regard.

The court has sought the Kerala government’s response on Senkumar’s bail plea.
